One gardener’s generosity has turned into a space where the community gathers around flowers
Hey GPODers !
Today ’s submission is one that gives you those warm - and - fuzzy spirit . It started with a message fromElizabethon behalf of her friend , Sue :
Hello , okay horticulture . My friend , Sue Carney , turn her 1000 into a lovelycut - flower gardenthree years ago . Last year she gave aside 1,000bouquetsof flowers along with dateless smiles of joy . For this season , I created and gave Sue a new whimsical flower house to reflect Sue ’s kindness and passion of giving .
Obviously , we could n’t wait to hear and see more . Elizabeth got us in touch with Sue , and the level of this mythologic , cut - flower garden unfolded . Below you could see and register how a unsubdivided approximation to portion out flowers turned into a blank space that connect the community and allows Sue to share her lovemaking for garden with every favorable case that stops by .
Three years ago I enlarged my garden to supercede my front yard so I could raise flower to deal with others .
I realized this was n’t a new idea as I posted photos on Instagram and slip up uponSteph Hankerson ’s flower house , free-base on the free little library movement . Each daytime she put out bloom and a description of the contents of eachbouquet .
A booster built a similar menage for me , but this year when it needed to be replaced , creative person Elizabeth Schoonmaker and her married man , John , volunteered . They pluck up the flower house , strip it to the frame , and designed and painted a new body structure that reflected “ my whimsical , interactive , garden installment . ” Those were Beth ’s words and her mission , and she executed it brilliantly . multitude have sent me messages about being able-bodied to see its new downcast ceiling from a block aside !
Last yr I was capable to give away 1,004 free bouquets to sometime and novel friend .
Even after just a quick peek at Sue ’s new garden , you may see that it ’s no wonder how she is able-bodied to produce so many beautiful bouquets . Black - eyed Susans ( Rudbeckiahirta , Zones 3–8 ) , purple coneflower ( Echinaceapurpurea , Zones 3–9 ) , andspider flowers(Cleome hassleriana , Zones 3–8 ) are just some of the plants covered in pristine blossom .
Another pellet shew the dead impressive larkspur ( Consolidaajacis , annual ) in Sue ’s garden .
A close - up shot of the larkspurs divulge their many shades of pink and purpleness .
Last year masses visited to walk through the garden , share stories about their life , bring category from school day , and see the many variety show of plants fromMayuntil the end ofOctober .
This year I design to give one nighttime tour a calendar week , and hopefully share 1,500 bouquets . If you are in the West Winfield area , stop by and I will give you a bouquet on the house .
And if you do n’t have a chance to make a stumble out to West Winfield , NY , ensure you follow Sue Carney on Instagram:@on.the.house.bouquetsand@smcarn . As well as check outElizabeth ’s blogwhere she showcases her various garden- and plant - inspired art .
