Dramatic plants put a planting over the top
My name is Tatyana Searcy , and my garden is located on the Kitsap Peninsula in the DoS of Washington . It waspreviously sport on the GPOD(plus , my photos have appeared in several other posts : Gazebo , Blue poppies , Lakewold Gardens , Butchart Gardens ) .
Today , I ’d like to share the views of my front works bed that I think was in its best shape ever last gardening season . And I bang exactly what render this industrial plant do it its luscious , best ever look . Of course , many plants have reached substantial size of it , and several of import plant have been add together — among them , ‘ Autumn Moon ’ Nipponese maple ( Acer shirasawanum‘Autumn Moon ’ , Zones 5–9 ) and ‘ Oregon Pride ’ hydrangea ( Hydrangea macrophylla‘Oregon Pride ’ , Zones 6–9 ) .
But I tally two more important elements to this central bed in 2018 . The first was a potted red banana plant ( Abyssinian banana , Ensete ventricosum‘Maurelii ’ , Zones 10–11 ) . When I get it out of the garage in spring , the tall red banana instantly added striking effect to the plant bottom . In summer , when it unfurled its stunning dark foliage , it became a star of the front garden . What a gorgeous architectural industrial plant it is ! The second chemical element was several container with annuals that I placed in the front of the industrial plant layer . Those were relatively magniloquent containers that allowed their flowers to “ float ” and fill otherwise empty or dark place .
For two of these tall pots , I bought hanging baskets and just flump them into the pile ( clamant gratification ! ) . From afar , the pots were almost inconspicuous and the flowers looked suspended in the line .
Only the key front bed is shown here , but the second red banana flora and several monovular pots with annual were settle further to the right , on the opposite side of the private road . It provide a sense of oneness and rhythm to the entire front garden .
I hope to repeat the feel of the front bed in 2019 .
Red ( Abyssinian ) banana , a enceinte bush ofHydrangea macrophilla‘Oregon Pride’,Phormium tenax(New Zealand flax , zone 9–11 ) , and ‘ Autumn Moon ’ Japanese maple are striking flora that delimit the look of this works bed .
It ’s difficult to overestimate the impact of theHydrangea macrophylla‘Oregon Pride ’ in this plant life bed . It ’s not just the large shining efflorescence point , but the braggart leaves and strike Bourgogne stems that draw in attending .
Another significant plant that adds interest group to this plant bed isSenecio candicans‘Angel Wings ’ ( zone 8–10 or as annual ) . It was sitting in the same stool as the Abyssinian banana tree .
In this May video , you may see two hang basket sit around on the top of improbable container with draw still attach . bloom annuals in container provided color to this spot even when very few plants were flower there .
Rose ‘ Regensberg ’
Poppies , Penstemon‘Red Rocks ’ ( Zones 4–8 ) , lilies , ‘ Mr. Lincoln ’ and ‘ Regensberg ’ rose , Liatrisspicata‘Kobold ’ ( Kobold blazing lead , Zones 3–8 ) , chives ( Allium schoenoprasum , Zones 4–8),Eremurus(foxtail lily , zone 5–8),Rose campion(Lychnis coronaria , Zones 3–9),Fuchsia‘Dollar Princess ’ ( geographical zone 9–11 ) , andDigitalis purpurea(foxglove , Zones 3–8 ) are among the perennials growing in the front industrial plant bed .
I recently introduced rose campion to the front garden . Its vividly coloured flowers seemed to be too bright to me , but now I appreciate not only its flowers but its bushy , multistem structure . A single plant life of rose catchfly can percolate up a dreary place in a bed .
My Abyssinian banana have already been overwinter four times in the service department .
‘ Oregon Pride ’ hydrangea looks in effect next to a purple - leaf Nipponese maple .
Bigger plants in this picture are , from left to right : ‘ Sungold ’ train of thought - subdivision cypress ( Chamaecyparis pisifera‘Sungold ’ , Zones 4–8 ) , ‘ Autumn Moon ’ Nipponese maple , and ‘ Canadale Gold ’ wintercreeper ( Euonymusfortunei‘Canadale amber ’ , Zones 5–8 ) .
