Cindy shares her garden in all its guises
Today ’s picture hail from Cindy Reiss , who shares how beautiful her garden is every meter of the year . She gardens in Rochester , New York , and while she ’s been garden for 20 years , she take over this garden just four year ago . When she arrived , it was a collection of 50 - year - old leave out shrubs and every invading plant from the neighborhood ! How did she transubstantiate that neglected space into a garden ?
I start with the unpleasant project of digging up , eliminating , cutting , and moving bush and flora that were overgrown or improperly ride one segment at a sentence and then adding in new , refreshing plants that contribute texture and color . I ’m still figure out on make that “ idealistic sweeping scene ” !
Where does she get her ideas ?
candidly , I pour over myFine Gardeningmags for breathing in , since I am not a natural clothes designer . Given that , solitaire is my number one horticulture dick ! I seek to imagine how flora will go together , and I read planting guides , but trial and error is my upright governess . I may move flora several metre before they bring in the correct spot .
Winter . That ’s what a lot of our garden are begin to face like right now ! So much promise is inhume under that snow .
There is cracking smasher in the winter , such as these bare Tree against a delicately colored sunrise .
Spring ! Sheets of blue blank out - me - nots ( Myosotis sylvatica , Zones 5–9 ) with the white blossom of fothergilla ( Forthergilla gardenii , zone 4–8 ) in the backcloth .
More spring color from a whitened azalea .
Here ’s a spot to sit and enjoy the garden , punt by a flowering rhododendron , with the bold foliage of yellow wax - bells ( Kirengeshoma palmata , Zones 5–8 ) to the right wing . Those folio will be top off with yellow ship’s bell - forge flowers in the late summertime . Cindy says that she ’s act that plant four different sentence to find just the right spotlight . That ’s a expectant lesson for nurseryman — if you do n’t care where something is , move it until you ’re happy !
Can you believe that Cindy says she ’s not a natural designer ? I love this planting ! purplish genus Petunia in the background knowledge echo the color of the veronica ( Veronica spicata , Zones 3–8 ) in the front , both of which dividing line with the white flowers of foxglove penstemon ( Penstemon digitalis , Zones 3–8 ) .
It ’s high summer in the garden , with colourful coneflowers ( Echinaceaspp . and hybrids , Zones 3–9 ) steal the show . Cindy grows several varieties of coneflowers , including ‘ Tiki Torch ’ , ‘ Pow Wow Wild Berry ’ , and ‘ braggy Kahuna ’ .
More of the garden in full summertime prime .
And now we come full circle , with the first snowfall mixture with the bright gold of fall leaves .
