I sleep together August . The monsoons are here to give us rest from the heat and help water the garden . I really enjoy the lightning storms at night . I got my first few love apple really in July . Already harvest Allium sativum , carrots , beets and daikon . Chard has been harvest once by taking the verboten parting only and result it to regrow back . Same with kale .
I will begin harvest grape , blackberry and raspberries in August . Flowers are beautiful and filling out , blossoms soon to observe . In August , harvest tomato will really sound off in - I’ll be headless presently . Do n’t blank out to keep harvesting veggies and fruits . if you stop picking , the plants think their job is over because their priory is to make seeds . I ’m really bask the garden this twelvemonth .
Cabbages will be crop in August too . I really wish the varietyKalibosshown here .
Even so , there are some tasks for us to do in our August veggie garden .
AUGUST
Tomatoes - prune tomato plants / sucker as needed and fertilize this month .
Cucumbers / noodle - Trainviningvarieties of cucumbers and beans up a treillage .
Protect your crops - Use wrangle cover , hail netting or shade cloth against hail in face it comes . I always protect my crop now as we ’ve had bad hail in the yesteryear .
Start seed for fall crops indoors - I’ve startied lettuce and spinach in other August .
lineal seed decrease harvest outdoors - yes many craw can be unmediated seeded in good order now with our fond sidereal day / nights . Ialready planted seeds for more carrots , beet and radishes .
turn back for pests - Aphidson many different plants - spray with water first and then Neem in the evening .
love apple horn worm - I’ve learn the hawk ( also called gypsy or hummingbird moth ) out and about in the evenings but have n’t get word hornworms yet . Handpick the hornworms off the tomato works when they go far and put in bucket of saponaceous water .
lettuce looperson brassicas - handpick or spray with Bt .
Leaf minersin beets / chard - keep insure with dustup cover .
Squash bugsare here too . Be on the lookout and check hebdomadally as squash bug go from eggs to the dreaded white-haired nymphs every 7 - 10 sidereal day so it ’s important to get them - I check industrial plant every 7 days . Take off rowing cover once the distaff blossoms seem . So now the individual works are uncovered . Rodents - This twelvemonth with rats , mice , and spermophile , I ’m have less press from these critter . But I think catching 3 dirty dog in a live trap and relocating them really helped . I consider they did n’t have any solid food or body of water last class out in the wild but this yr is honorable with the moisture ( for everyone ! )
