We ’ve had a huge output of cucumbers this year , meaning batch for salads and stale soup .

Thecucumbersin the garden are now raise their common early summer bounteousness . My cucumbers seem to always get in a bragging rush and then the production of new fruits slows when it gets really hot . We are uprise both criterion , Straight Eight , green - eccentric cukes and the small but tasty lemon tree Cucumis sativus . The lemon cucumber are a number slower to make the majority of their fruits and seem to last best into the hotness .

I really like the direction the Citrus limon cucumbers savor , and I eat the rind and all when I pluck a few for my gardening snacks . Citrus limon cucumbers also are a strong emotional plant for me , because I recollect growing them in my very first vegetable garden when I was about 6 years onetime . I grew icicle radishes , marigolds and lemon tree cucumbers , and I am still quite felicitous to have all three in my current garden . ( By the way , I ’m fault the dotty weather that rag thelocal beesfor the large number of bent green cucumbers . I think the flowers did n’t get pollinated wholly and so the fruit develop crookedly . )

With all this output , we have way too many cucumbers to eat in salads , so we are also feed a lot of cold cucumber soup these days . My wife puts them in the blender and bring some yogurt and spices and we eat it in good order away as well as save some in the refrigerator . It ’s a great dish for luncheon on a hot sidereal day . We have a hard metre finding the classicdillseasoning here , so we often just utilise a few bits of unfounded anise seed , which try fine . Cucumbers are calledcitriolihere , and my neighbors take on my cucumber vine gifts with big smiles .

Wasps

The European Hornets in my backyard in Italy wait similar to the wasps we had in Las Vegas , Nev.

I ’ve see view a bunch of big wasps in the garden lately . They seem like the same white Anglo-Saxon Protestant we had in Las Vegas , but they are actually the European Hornet , Vespa crabro , which has been introduce to the U.S. , mostly on the easterly one-half of the country .

All wasps are calledvespahere in Italy , and these large wasps are calledcalabrone . The genus for yellow-bellied jacket wasps isVespula . These big hornets look terrifying , but they are actually quite passive and merit more respect from gardener because they eat mostly flies . I did accidentally bump against one of their nesting sites last yr and got stung . I had a liberal oaf on my subdivision for a week , but I wo n’t hold that against these guys .

Cucumbers

We’ve had a huge production of cucumbers this year, meaning lots for salads and cold soups.

This young man ( pictured above ) was hum near my garden workbench and I managed to get a methamphetamine hydrochloride jar over him . I went up to my office and determine a U.S. fourth part so I could have something that my American friends would translate to show the sizing of the wolf . Photographing him was a dicey conjuration , because the tv camera did n’t meet the sass of the methamphetamine hydrochloride shock , and he came close to getting out several time . Of course , after his picture school term , I thanked him for his time and let him go .
