Glorious June Blooms. Six on Saturday.
Exciting things happen every day in the garden in June and it is unmanageable to keep up with it all , but today it is raining and I ca n’t do much outside aside from worry about the rose getting scare away . And I do not have enough umbrellas to protect them all . This is a marvelous year for roses and as they are a passion , or should I say , an obsession of mine they merit a post of their own .
But there are other tremendous things happen too . I do n’t think I can keep to six flowers to keep within the rules of this meme , but I hope if I stick to six genera I will get away with it . mythological peony and irises are so fleeting . Some of my blowsy peonies , including my new Itoh hybrids are over . But although none of them bloom for long , they do n’t all come at once , so with different varieties the time of year is draw out . The single ‘ Bowl of Beauty ’ is still looking good .
And I love the sultry dreary pinkish flowers of Peony ‘ Karl Rosenfield ’ . I have heard this color key out as red , by people who are presumptively colour blind .
A new peony for me last year is ‘ Coral Sunset ’ which has unusual coral flower which fade to spill the beans as they mature .
The bearded sword lily have mostly had their moment , but there are still irises to enjoy . Irises are prosperous from seed and I always uprise a few to see what exciting colours I will get . These are two of my Pacific Coast Iris babe , they are both prettier than their parent .
I love Iris sibericatoo and it clumps up nicely as long as it does n’t dry out and it does n’t need staking like the larger bearded fleur-de-lis . you could get it in mythical colours and it is easy from seed . I have the rareIris siberica‘Osborne ’s Grey ’ , but I think this clump of its seedling looks even better than the parent .
But now I have divulge the fabulousIris siberica‘Peacock Butterfly ’ range and I sha n’t be content until I have all of them , they come in such comestible people of colour . So far I only have ‘ Jerry Murphy ’ but I sha n’t perch until I have ’ Unbuttoned zip fastener ’ , ‘ Uncorked ’ and ‘ Painted Lady ’ . Just look them up and you will see what I mean . It is a ruth about the silly names , but you ca n’t have everything . I do n’t know how to describe the gloss of ‘ Jerry Murphy ’ but they have caramel brown in them and I jazz brown flowers .
I am thrilled with the yellow flower with brown stripes of the wildIris pseudacorusrelation which is call ‘ Berlin Tiger ’ . It was spawn in Germany by the iris stock breeder , Thomas Tamberg . The flowers are a thoroughgoing match for the genus Acer .
On a nursery sojourn recently with the Women Who Weed I came across a endearing new genus Abutilon call ‘ Pink Charm ’ . I love it for its abundance of pink flowers with wan brown calyx .
There I go again rise lyrical about brown flowers . I am wonder if I have the space somewhere for a brown molding . If that sound dull to you imagine shade of mahogany , chestnut , caramel , toffee and oatmeal with apricot flowers . Sorry , I digress , we are doing Six on Saturday . But I think I will return to this theme another Clarence Day , I ’m just wonder where on earth I could conform to it in . I would care to examine to the doubter amongst you that it could work . I shall just have to dig up more lawn which will make croquet tricky .
And here is another plant for my dark-brown boundary line , it isAlstroemeria‘Indian Summer ’ with coppery - orange tree and golden yellow flowers and lovely bronze foliage . I get it with the feathery bronze leaf ofActaea simplex‘Brunette ’ .
I have always loved kalmia both for the sculptural , ribbed bud like little fairy tale turrets and the delightful clusters of flowers . But they are for garden with an sulphurous soil and would not survive here . But it occurred to me that I can grow it in a stool . And I am beguiled with it . I do n’t approve of plebeian names for plants as they are often regional and so perplexing , but I rather care the name of Calico Bush for this .
And here we are at issue six and I will finish with orchidaceous plant . Some years ago , I plant aDactylorhiza fuchsii , or Common Spotted orchid hope it would unfold into carpets . I read somewhere that this orchid suppresses dearest fungus which I am plagued with . It has grown into a lovely clump with several capitulum but it never seed around .
But my pridefulness and pleasure is the one of the two Lady ’s Slipper orchidaceous plant which has condescend to bloom this class , the other is over now . I have several of these blue-blooded ladies in my garden and I do what I can to please them and it is n’t promiscuous . I really am very thankful if they at least stay alert . But this one is paying its way .
So there we have my six . I really would like to show you my roscoeas , but rules are rules and I have already bent them a spot so they will have to wait . And in any case , I do believe it has in reality stopped raining and a nurseryman ’s workplace is never done . So out I go , get out you in the capable hands of thePropagatorwho hosts this meme , Six on Saturday . And of course there are peck of other enthusiastic Sixers with tons of interesting posts to peruse .

The designation of “ red ” probably is intend to point “ in the cerise phratry , ” as opposed to ashen , etc . , or something like that . I gibe with you , however ; my “ Red Rose of Lancaster ” is n’t really RED , either , but a rich rosiness color . We have it off the difference , do n’t we ?
As always , each photo presents another jewel I can salivate over . How I ’d fuck to have that ‘ Coral Sunset ’ paeony ! Neither my Majorcan paeony nor my Itoh peony bloomed this year – the latter was n’t a surprisal as it ’s never bloomed but the former was a dashing hopes , although not terribly surprising given our rightfully pitiable rainwater aggregate . I can only hope next twelvemonth will be better as I suspect our so - called megadrought ” is going to lead to new pee restrictions before long .
I envy you the rain Chloris – only a few desultory spots here and shout out for more . What a beautiful peony ‘ Coral Sunset ’ is both in it ’s come out figure and the delicate shade it morphs into .
