Go wild, photo tips for gardeners
Our lives transmute when we become gardeners . One day , we simply go out to bribe a trivial flora to decorate the porch , or a tree to shadow the backyard . Then , faster than you could say “ 8 cubic chiliad of mulch , ” we ’ve joined a new social electronic web ( the garden ) where the password is MORE4me !
Next , we glue a tv camera to our hand , only releasing it when wielding a traditional garden implement .
It ’s a sure sign of the zodiac that we ’ve spoil the line when we learn creature we ’d never really find before : flyspeck dirt ball , closemouthed lizard , and darting Anolis carolinensis . When we spot a butterfly or hummingbird on one of OUR flowers , or a boo munch a berry on a bush we planted , we race to get a birdbath , set up a pool , and strike the baby’s room for more plants to add to our friend ’s list .
That ’s what occur toHoward Cheek , CTG ’s nurseryman of the week . A few years ago , he did n’t even own a tv camera . He was n’t a big nurseryman . But this class , he wasThe Nature Conservancy’sphoto victor for Waterhole Landing .
On our visit to Kempner with Howard and his wife Mary , you ’ll see how make a endorse wildlife backyard home ground changed their lives , and bring the “ talent ” up close .
Howard share a few of his picture peak for gardener , including the closed book behind this one .
This hebdomad , Tom andAlice Nanceshow how easy ( and rewarding ) it is to become acertified wildlife backyard habitat .
In my garden , I planted these Dianella ( variegated flax lily ) to counterpoint theSalvia guaraniticathat attracts wildlife with late spring and decrease flowers . Prune herbaceous salvia like this one after their first bloom cycle , and again in late August to renew blossom for hungry fall insect . In a few weeks ( maybe ? ) , they ’ll freeze to the ground . slue them back , and they ’ll soon quickly be back on the Book of Job . I wish the way this one passalong works from my Dad ’s friend Andy has made a nice thicket .
Salvia microphylla‘Hot Lips ’ is evergreen , but in my garden , it ’s just now gearing up again to fill up a few mouths . Like Howard ’s , it attracts hummingbird , too .
My groundcover in semi - shade , Wedeliatrilobata , will rest this winter , but the oxalis beyond ( along with other winter boner , seeds , and berries ) will keep the wildlife gravy train on cartroad .
A reformist garden dinner party make for the best intention , since we never lack for something interesting to watch . So keep those photographic camera battery charged up !
Remember , you’re able to now watch CTG anytime , anywhere onklru.tv .
Until next week , Linda
