It has not been rare in the past few class to see spring flowering bush , such as forsythia , magnolia , apples , crabapple and lilac flowering in the fall . The rationality is usually stressful weather condition such as drouth or in high spirits temperatures . These condition induce dormancy or reduced growth . When the circumstance ameliorate , with cool downslope temperatures and rainfall , the plant are have to grow . And what is on the plants to grow are the prime buds which , for these spring blooming shrub , are formed in June and July . Stressful atmospheric condition consideration have been common lately in the upper Midwest . Drought conditions have been the “ new normal ” for the preceding 3 years in Minnesota . And how about the heat ? A “ normal ” of 13 , 90 - arcdegree day was far surpassed with 33 for Minneapolis in 2023 . The hot and juiceless conditions slow increase and induced a dormancy for many plants . Another return has been a leaf stain disease on lilac . And if warmer summers and drought conditions happen more often , we might see more natural spring flower showing off in the fall .
