Six on Saturday. And Now for Something Completely Different.

I have grown the lovely perennial snapdragon , Antirrhinum‘Pretty in Pink ’ for several years . It was launched to great acclaim at Chelsea Flower Show in 2015 . It arise big and bushy and blooming all summer long and yes , it is hardy .

It seeds around and so there are always plenty of plants to give away to champion . But this twelvemonth it produced something quite new . I am now the lofty owner of the first white perennial genus Antirrhinum . I have n’t thought of a name yet . Any suggestions ?

Last year I acquire the prettyNicotiana‘Tinkerbell ’ .

People who register my blog regularly probably know that I am dotty about nerines . The first one to flower is always the bright redNerine sarniensiswhich is not unfearing and has to go in the nursery .

This yr I bought a new one calledNerine sarniensis‘Corusca major ’ which I believe would be enceinte and better and redder . I do n’t have sex whether this was mislabelled or what materialize ; it is early flowering but the wrong colour . If I had n’t expected a lovely promising red flower I would be pleased with it as it is much to begin with flower than the other nerines . But pink ?

And now for some plants which are new and dissimilar for me but perhaps not for you .

I have never grow watsonia as I am not sure how dauntless it is but this year I am test a endearing peach one in my gravel garden .

If it is successful next year I shall try this fabulousWatsonia fourcadeiwhich I saw growing at Green Island Gardens recently .

I do n’t love whether Lily ‘ nuclear fusion ’ is a novel hybrid but it is new to me this year and I love it . It is a cross betweenLilium longiflorumand the Leopard lily , Lilium pardilinum . It is my current favored lily .

I will finish with something very different . Many people grow the fragrant Abyssinian gladiolus , Acidanthera murielaewhich is so unmanageable to bring back into bloom . It is actually calledGladiolus murielaenow . The Abyssinian gladiola is the only one that is fragrant . Joan Wright , who was a plant stock breeder from New Zealand essay for many years to make a new fragrant corpus sternum by making crosses withGladioulus murielae . Gladioulus murielae‘Lucky Star ’ was the only result . It was primitively insert in 1966 but was lost to gardeners for decade . It is Modern to me this year and I hope I can keep it hold up . It is a precious stone with large , fragrant , white flowers with a fuchsia -pink centre .

So there we have it , my Six On Saturday for August . I hope I have shown you something a little turn unlike . Many thanks to the Propagatorfor host the popular meme and this week I have stuck to the rule , more or less .

Mama Nedley ( my enate grandma ) grew white nicotiana , along with ginger lilies , in a humble garden ell on the Second Earl of Guilford side of her house . The nicotiana , as I recall after all these decades , bloomed at nighttime . Maybe it ’s sweet fragrancy was the reason she establish it there — it was under her bedroom window !
