Turn your front lawn into a gardener’s dream while keeping a connection with your nongardening neighbors
Drive down any suburban streetacross the country , and you ’re likely to see the same quondam thing : lawn , lawn , lawn , spruce tree , lawn . This would be a dream come on-key for former landscape painting architects , like Frederick Law Olmsted , who saw a nonstop ocean of grass as a way to bind house together in a parklike scene . Since those early 24-hour interval , the lawn has been seen as a direction of establishing an instant relationship with the neighbors — a relationship built on our mingling turfs . A nice lawn can be a beautiful thing , but if you are a gardener , like our friend Faye Beck , this monotony is not a ambition but a nightmare .
Set your web site apart : Although Faye and her neighbor own mountain that are like in sizing and embodiment , Faye ’s front yard undeniably stands out . Keep just enough grass for effect
Tired of looking at and like for her high - maintenance front lawn , Faye decided to install several garden beds . During their instalment , she wanted to get disembarrass of the lawn whole . When in prime , the dear - colored flowers of this perennial are even more eye - catch with the golden - leave yew as a background .
➑Leatherleaf sedge(Carex buchananii , Zones 6–9 )
The brown leathery polypody sedge picks up the smoky bronze tone of the steel - mold crocosmia leaves .
