Spring get at the farm !

at long last – after what seemed like a wintertime that would simply never end , spring has spring at the farm .

It is hard to believe that 9 years ago , the farm was simply 3 acres of overgrown brush .

But as the spring of 2018 rolls in , here we are,108 months after – gardening , living , and lie with our time at our little OWG farm .

This has been an awful few calendar month for us . Being at the farm full - time now has allowed us to concentrate on what we love most – dreaming , building , planting , and work out outside .

There is something so incredible about getting the opportunity to work with your hands . And we have been doing a lot of that lately !

Spring Arrives – Photos From The Farm!

Celebrating 9 Years…

Our Old World Garden C. W. Post signs were start to show a second of article of clothing after a few geezerhood . So , we decided to update them with a new look to celebrate the farm ’s beginning .

We make our homemade post signs with simple and inexpensive yard signs . To dress them up , we create a wood frame around them and then confiscate to our planter post .

It is our little orphic way create an expensive - bet sign for about $ 15 .

A Little Remodeling For The Honey Bees

Everybody deserves a new smell now and then – even the dearest bees !

We decided to spruce up their digs a little this yr with a new rouge job and a custom ceiling .

We had some left over cedarwood board from build the firm , so we decided to practice them to create a minuscule unexampled roof dividing line to help shake off water off of the top of the hives .

While we were at it , we build them a more solid base to keep the urtication level as well .

The Farm Comes To Life

Nothing says early fountain more than beautiful blossoms fill the tree diagram .

This midget weeping cherry tree in our side yard is loaded with gorgeous bloom of youth . And filled with beloved bees working them like crazy !

It is always such a great sight to see after understand the Tree unornamented for so long .

The Springtime Barn Additions

It seems like we can never have enough projection going on at once . But , we would n’t have it any other way !

We finally nail the barn addition this retiring week . It need us a few week to frame and stream the concrete . But the only thing exit to complete is the picture .

We also build two new gravelly - sawn door for the front entrance , along with a concrete ramp .

We really want to have more farm to tabular array dinner party result at the farm in future yr , and the addition will help oneself make that a minute loose to do .

The Self-Sufficient Cabin Project Continues…

As bound arrives , we now have our little cabin in it ’s terminal resting piazza !

We poured a concrete pad for the cabin a few weeks back , and thanks toWeaver Barnshelping out – locomote it into place to overtop the barn and garden .

This past week , we started instal a bit of landscaping around the edges . As always , we divide exist plants from the farm to create it all for free . See : Creating New Plants For Free – Landscaping On A Dime

In the fall weeks , we will be adding the solar board and finish the interior .

It should be a great position for guests to pass the night at the farm !

What A Raised Row Garden Looks Like In Early Spring

Wonder what a resurrect Row Garden look like in early leap ? This is a photo from our garden taken on April 13th .

The walking rows are all cover in a fatheaded coating of protective weed - stopping barque mulch . And the raise rowing are filled thick with our cover version crop of grain rye .

We started mow the cover crop off yesterday . We use a little push mower for the task , which takes just a few minute .

By planting twenty-four hours ( May 20 - 30th for summer harvest ) , it will have well-nigh all conk off . We then expend a post hole digger to plug properly through the soil and industrial plant without ever tilling .

It usually takes us about 30 minutes to plant the full 40 x 60 garden . It really is a wonderful way to garden with ease . See : Raised Row Gardening

Building A New Springtime Garden Entrance

I have always wanted to try my hand at post and ray of light construction . And , we have always desire to build a more courtly ingress to the garden .

The result ? A new berth and beam garden bodily structure ! It was so fun to work up , and we love the way it now determine the garden outer space .

We will have an article all about the garden bodily structure in a few weeks , but we think we would show a sneak flush today for the photo tour of duty .

Signs Of Life In The Garden – Spring Arrives

speak of the garden , the first seeds of the season are now up !

Our radish seeds break through the ground this past week to begin it all off .

It will still be for a while before the tomato , peppers and other summer crop go in , but it is a beginning !
